The Enchanter Merlin by Howard Pyle

I found these cool ink drawings of Merlin! Howard Pyle drew them in 1902 for a book about King Arthur. The book is full of other illustrations worth looking at, too.

The first image is my favorite – the composition is like a yin-yang. I love the contrast of Merlin’s scowl, wrinkles, and cavities of his face versus the long, straight, shiny hair! I want to brush my hand down his hair and say “you are a beautiful, grumpy, wizard, Merlin!”.
